1. According to the NCAA (Bylaw 13.02.11), a "representative of the institution's athletic interest, "booster or friend is an individual who is know to:

    • "...have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting the institution's athletics program;

    • Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or to any athletics booster organization of that institution;

    • Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families; or

    • Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution's athletics program."

Once an individual has been identified as a representative of our athletic interest by fulfilling any of the above, he or she retains this identity indefinitely.

2. You MAY speak to a prospective student-athlete over the telephone if the prospect initiates the call and the call is not related to recruiting purposes only.

3. You MAY observe a prospect's athletic contest on your own with the understanding that you may not have contact with the prospect at any time during this occasion. Feel free to notify a CSU coach of a talented student-athlete who might benefit our program.

4. You MAY provide employment at rates of pay for student-athletes that are similar to rates of pay for the general employee so long as the athlete is not on full scholarship. We welcome your positive involvement in obtaining summer or vacation-time jobs or internships.

5. You MAY offer your assistance to a CSU coach when he or she is recruiting in your city by providing transportation for the coach (not for prospects) or by providing the coach with suggestions on contacts for information on propective student-athletes.

6. You MAY NOT arrange face to face meetings, write or telephone propsects, either high school or junior college, about attending Cleveland State University.

7. You MAY NOT provide an "extra benefit" meaning a gift of material value (i.e., cash, cash loans, automobiles, cosigning of a loan, Christmas or birthday presents) to currently enrolled student-athletes. You must charge for all professional services or any benefit available to the general student population.

8. You MAY NOT provide employment to a student-athlete during the academic year without first checking with the coach and/or administration.

9. You MAY NOT provide gifts or awards to enrolled student-athletes for their athletic performance.

10. You MAY NOT provide transportation for a high school or junior college prospect who wants to visit our campus or an athletic event.

11. You MAY NOT provide free services, gifts, benefits or special treatment to any high school or junior college prospective student-athlete or his or her parents.

12. You MAY NOT provide room board or transportation to friends or family of an enrolled student-athlete to visit campus or to attend an away-from-home contest.

13. You MAY NOT use the picture of an enrolled student-athlete to promote or advertise the sale of or use of a commercial product or service.

14. You MAY NOT provide expenses or make arrangements for reduced rate travel for an enrolled student-athlete to return home or to any location to receive an award or for any personal reason.
