PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Cleveland State was held to just six hits in a 9-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday night at Trees Field.

The Vikings slipped to 20-21 this season, while the Panthers improved to 15-25.

The Vikings got on the board in the first inning as Brad Buell led off with a single and stole second. He would come around to score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Bischof.

However, that would be all the runs that CSU could muster all night as the Panthers came back with two runs in the first, three more in the fourth and four in the eighth.

"It just wasn't a fun game to watch tonight," head coach Kevin Kocks said. "Both teams were lacking inspiration and all the pistons in the engine were not running on all cylinders tonight. It was just a matter of who was going to take control of the game first and they did that. We couldn't hit their soft throwing lefty and started to chase some off speed stuff."

Buell finished 2-for-4 with a run, while Bischof, Alex Kerins, John Brown, Sam Clyde and Josh Geric had one hit each.

Chris Bauman started for the Vikings and went three innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit. CSU used a total of five pitchers.

Kevin Dooley started for the Panthers and lasted five inning. He gave up three hits and just one run, while striking out five. He improved to 1-2 this season.

The Vikings will be back in action on Friday when CSU hosts UIC at 6:00 p.m. at The Pipe Yard.
