The addition of George Tandy, who was one of the top post players in the Ohio Valley Conference during his two years at Eastern Illinois, gives the Vikings a shot-blocking and rebounding defensive presence in the post. A long and athletic player capable of scoring from 15 feet and in, he will be counted on to help stabilize the CSU post defense by playing significant minutes throughout the year.
PRE-CLEVELAND STATE:
Named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2004-05 while playing at Eastern Illinois.
Averaged 9.0 points and 7.1 rebounds as a sophomore in 2005-06.
Had all four career double-doubles as a sophomore, including a career-high 16 points with 10 rebounds vs. Western Illinois (11/29/05).
Added 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds vs. Morehead State (1/28/06).
Set a school record with six blocked shots vs. Tennessee Tech (12/18/05).
Averaged 6.4 points and 5.1 boards as a freshman, ranking third in the league with 42 blocks.
Shot .799 from the foul line during his two seasons (147-187).
HIGH SCHOOL:
Honorable mention all-state choice as a senior at Cleveland's Lincoln West High, playing for coach Roy Foster.
Averaged a triple-double as a senior with 20 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks per game.
Named first team all-conference and team MVP in his only season at Lincoln West, helping team to go from 3-16 the season before to 18-3.
Named MVP of the Black College All-Star game.
