Cleveland State To Face Illinois-Chicago In MCC Men's Basketball Tournament March 3

Cleveland - The Cleveland State University men's basketball team will take on the University of Illinois at Chicago at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, March 3 in the quarterfinals of the 2001 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Tournament at Wright State University's Ervin J. Nutter Center near Dayton, Ohio.

The Vikings, which wrapped up the regular season with a 63-60 win at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Saturday night, earned the #3 seed after finishing 9-5 in the MCC (18-12 overall). The Flames are the #6 seed with a 5-9 league mark (11-16 overall.)

On the other side of CSU's bracket, second-seeded Detroit (20-9, 10-4) will play seventh-seeded UW-Green Bay (11-16, 4-10) at 6 p.m. Host Wright State (17-10, 8-6), the #4 seed, will open the tournament against UW-Milwaukee (15-12, 7-7), the #5 seed, at 12 noon while the other afternoon game at 2:30 p.m. will pit top-seeded Butler (20-7, 11-3) against the #8 seed, Loyola (7-20, 2-12).

Semifinals will take place Sunday, March 4 with the Wright State/UW-Milwaukee winner taking on the Butler/Loyola victor at 5 p.m., followed by the 7:30 p.m. contest featuring the Detroit/UW-Green Bay winner against the Cleveland State/UIC winner.

This year's 18-win season for the Vikes is just the eighth time in school history that Cleveland State has posted 18 victories or more in a season.
