Pallacanestro Trieste 74, Cleveland State 63

Aug. 20, 2001

Former U.S. collegiate stars Derell Washington (South Alabama) and Nate Erdmann (Oklahoma State) combined for 36 points to lead Pallacanestro Trieste to a 74-63 win over the Cleveland State Vikings on Monday night (Aug. 20) in the final round of the 3rd Giulio Torressi Tournament in Porto San Giorgio, Italy.

Theo Dixon (Sr./Cleveland Hts.) led the Vikings with 22 points and Jamaal Harris (Sr./Cleveland Hts.) had 12, but no other CSU player reached double figures for the Vikings, who shot 32 percent from the field. Trieste led 21-11 at the end of the first period, but the Vikings cut the lead to 34-28 at the half. The Italian "A" division team pushed their lead to 14 in the third period before the Vikings again came fighting back. CSU cut the lead to six at 60-54 on a Pape Badiane (So./Les Ulis, France) tip in with 5:00 to play, but could get no closer as Trieste made their free throws to close out the win. The Vikings won the battle of the boards 25-21 as Badiane had 10 caroms to go with his 9 points.

CSU travels to Fabriano, Italy tomorrow to play another team from the Italian leagues "A" division.
