Jesi 85, Cleveland State 66

Aug. 22, 2001

Playing in their sixth contest in seven days, the CSU Vikings came back from a 10 point deficit in the third quarter against the Aurora Basketball Club of Jesi, Italy, however the Vikes faded down the stretch in losing 85-66 on Wednesday (Aug. 22) at the Palasport Chiaravalle. The Vikings were down 46-36 midway through the third period, but rallied to tie Jesi at 54 on two free throws by Jerrod Calhoun (Fr./Villa Angela-St. Joseph) with 1:26 to go in the quarter. But the Vikes went cold for nearly eight minutes after that, as Jesi ran off 22 straight points to coast in for the win.

The Viking shooters had trouble finding the mark again, shooting just 32 percent (21 of 65) for the game, including 3 or 12 (25 percent) from behind the international arc. On the other hand, Jesi knocked down 49 percent (28 of 64) of their attempts, including numerous transition baskets which were the result of 22 Viking turnovers. Jamaal Harris (Sr./Cleveland Hts.) led CSU with 10 points. Pape Badiane (So./Les Ulis, France) led the Vikings on the boards with 8 to go with his 8 points and 2 blocks. CSU ends their foreign exhibition tour on Thursday (Aug. 23) with an Italian-televised game against Nazionale Italia Sperimentale in Rimini, Italy.
