Golf Places Third at CSU Invitational

CHARDON, Ohio - Cincinnati carded a final round 292 and rallied from four shots back to win the Cleveland State Invitational played at the par-71, 7062-yard Sand Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon. The Bearcats opened play on Monday with rounds of 292 and 301 and trailed first day leader Cleveland State by four shots. The Vikings, who shot 296 and 293 on Monday, struggled to a 304 in the final round to finish third. Loyola (299-298-292; 889) finished second. "We got off to a rough start today and couldn't recover," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "The conditions were a little tougher today, but we were not as sharp. It was a disappointing finish, but a good overall experience that we will grow and learn from." Geoff Mead of of South Dakota State earned medalist honors with a three-round total of 213 (71-72-70). Youngstown State's Ryan Stocke was one stroke back after firing rounds of 69-71-74 (214). CSU freshman Kent Monas was the top Viking finisher as he placed fifth at 218.
