Steve Weir, a 2006 graduate of Cleveland State University and former CSU golfer, is in his first season as the head men's and women's golf coach.

Weir is no stranger to the Viking program as he served as an assistant coach to the men's and women's squads last season. He has also been the Assistant Golf Professional at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinkley since April.

After spending time at Kent State University and Baldwin Wallace College as a student-athlete, Weir arrived at CSU in September of 2004 and had to sit out one season to meet NCAA residency requirements.

But the wait was well worth it.

In his lone season of golf at CSU, Weir earned All-Horizon League honors in 2006 and was a two-time Horizon League Golfer of the Week (April 5 and April 26). He carded a school-record, eight-under-par 63 en route to a runner-up finish at the Belmont Intercollegiate. Weir also finished second at the Dayton Spring Invitational as he helped the Vikings win the team title by eight shots.

In addition, Weir was a large factor in the Vikings claiming the 2006 Horizon League Championship, shooting rounds of 70-72-74 (216) as he placed 11th overall.

He was second on the team in stroke average (75.32) in 2006.

Weir had a successful career prior to his one year stint at CSU. In 2005, he captured the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship and also advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

At Baldwin-Wallace, Weir holds the best seasonal average in school-history when he posted 75.2 strokes per round in the fall of 2003, including a low round of 70.
