Vikings Down Penguins, 5-2
March 30, 2008 Contact: Jessica Gerich CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team won the doubles point and four singles matches to defeat Youngstown State, 5-2. The win improves the team to 1-1 in the Horizon League and 12-5 for the season. The No. 1 doubles duo of Freshman Sanda Bjelan and sophomore Denisa Muntean and No. 3 doubles team of freshmen Melissa Holzinger and Jackie Tabb won to claim the doubles point. Tabb led the team, winning 6-3, 6-3 over Emily Thayer at No. 3 singles, while Bjelan defeated Irena Lanc, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Sophomores Charlotte Gibbons and Muntean won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. "This was a big conference win to avenge our loss at Detroit last week," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Sanda played her best doubles of the year and Jackie showed what she is capable of doing. Jackie led the team bringing a high level of energy that carried throughout the team.
