Nov. 28, 2007

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Enjoying the best season in school-history, the Cleveland State volleyball team netted some of the top talent in the state as Megan Barhorst, Jordan Goad and Kourtney Volkmer signed National Letters of Intent to join the Cleveland State volleyball program in the fall of 2008. CSU head coach Chuck Voss made the announcement on Wednesday (Nov. 28) afternoon.

"This is a very strong class," Voss said. "We were able to sign a setter, a middle hitter and an outside hitter and the group will give us depth and stability at those positions in the coming years. I feel like we were able to meet our needs by signing these three outstanding student-athletes."

Barhorst is a 6-foot-3 middle hitter from Maria Stein, Ohio (Marion Local H.S.) who was selected to the all-conference and all-state first team this past season.

Goad earned first team all-city and all-district accolades her final two seasons at Toledo Notre Dame Academy and was the City and District Player of the Year as a senior. A 5-foot-9 setter, Goad helped lead her squad to a district championship as a senior and served as a team captain her final three seasons.

A 6-0 outside hitter from Colonel Crawford H.S. (North Robinson, Ohio), Volkmer was a four-time all-conference selection, including a first team pick as a junior and senior. The conference player of the year as a senior, Volkmer finished her high school career with 1,102 kills, 234 blocks and 720 digs, while leading her team to a combined 66-28 mark.

The Vikings will be back in action on Friday (Nov. 30) when they face Albany in the first round of the NCAA Championship at 5:00 p.m. in Penn State's Rec Hall. Should CSU win, the Vikings would play the winner of Friday's other match between Penn State and Siena on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Rec Hall.
