CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State cross country recently received an NCAA Public Recognition Award for earning an Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top 10 percent of its sport. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.

"This is a great honor for us and a wonderful way to cap the season," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "The student-athletes have committed themselves to being successful in the classroom and help set a great example for all students."

The APR measures retention and athletic eligibility of athletes and was developed as a more real-time assessment of a team's academic performance compared to the six-year graduation-rate calculation. The APR awards two points each term to student-athletes who meet academic-eligibility standards and who remain with the institution. The team's APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible.
